Dear Parents,
Mrs. Stack (our school librarian from several years ago)  came in on Friday to introduce the Science Fair! As in years past, the 7th and 8th graders do a Maker Fair  project. The theme for our Maker Fair this year is  “Reduce Plastic Waste.”  We watched a video about the tons and tons of plastic that is being dumped into our oceans and our landfills.   It is quite depressing! Mrs. Stack talked to us about “single use plastic” and the problems with recycling it. China is not buying our recycled  plastic anymore). You can view the video on the science fair website: http://timothylutheransciencefair.jmstack.com/   In addition, the website gives a lot of ideas for the Maker Fair projects.
All students are required to participate in the Science Fair by completing a project or work with a partner to create a project. As their science teacher, I feel like the experience that the students get from completing the science project is so valuable!   The science fair project will count as a test grade. Timothy’s Science Fair is Friday, May 1, so the projects are due at 8:30 that day so that the judges can begin their work.
Your student brought home a form for you to sign, stating you are aware of the upcoming science project.  Please sign and return this form by this Friday, March 13.

 Achievement Testing next week

The students in grades 3-8 will be taking achievement tests next week, Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20.  During that week, and always, please make sure your student gets a good night’s sleep and has a good breakfast, so that they can do their best and stay focused.  If possible, please minimize doctor and dentist appointments and have your student at school. (I know there is a lot of sickness going around, which can’t be helped).   If your student has to be gone next week, please let me know, and I can make sure they get the test made up.

Note from Mrs. Brunkhorst regarding Trivia Night
Hi, 7/8 parents!  As per tradition, the 7/8 class is in charge of the meal on Trivia Night.  Parents organize it and the kids help run it all. They deliver food to tables, act as vendors, help with taking money, etc.  The money earned goes towards the kids’ class trip. We would greatly love your help, if you can!
 Here are the details:
Trivia Night is Friday night, March 27th.  It begins at 7:00, but doors open at 6:00, and people will want to eat then!  Many people bring some snacks, but most will buy our meal! Trivia Night is usually over by 9:00ish.  ;)
Here is a sign-up to offer time or pieces of the meal:
THANK YOU!  God bless!
 Kim Brunkhorst

Monday, March 2, 2020
Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a great week-end.  The weather was so nice yesterday. I definitely have Spring Fever.
Class Trip Being Planned
We are in the process of planning the annual 7th/8th grade Class Trip.  We have tentatively set the dates for Wednesday, May 6 to Thursday, May 7th.  The students have school on that Friday we get back, but it is “Fun Day”, so if they are a little tired, it should be okay.
This year we will be going to St. Louis.  We will go to The City Museum on Wednesday, spend the night in a hotel, and go to Six Flags on Thursday and then come back to Blue Springs later that evening. I am in the process of making reservations and getting the exact cost. I hope to have the details out to you by this Friday.   If your child is not planning on going, please let me know ASAP.   The number of students going affects the cost per student.
On Trivia Night, March 27th, the 7th/8th graders have the opportunity to make some money to offset the class trip cost.  As in years past, several 7th or 8th grade parents run the concession stand with the help of the 7th/8th grade students.  The students that help out that night get to split the profits from the concession stand!
Morning with Mom - this Wednesday
This Wednesday, March 4, is Morning with Mom/Special person at 7:45. Please stay and join us for chapel at 9:00.

Volunteer Opportunity - DOOR HANGER PARTY!
Join us this Saturday, March 7, 9:00-11:00 am, for a door hanger party!  We have many new neighbors in our area.  We want to spread the word about our school and we need your help.  Meet at school at 9:00 am to help deliver door hangers to nearby homes.  Come join the fun!
After the door hanger distribution, stop back by school for Timothy’s Live Well event (9:00 am – 3:00 pm).  Several community organizations, including KC Wolf, will be in attendance.  Stop by and check it out!

Science Fair Info Coming Soon
Mrs. Stack, who is our former volunteer librarian, will be helping us out again this year with our Science Fair.  She will be in our class this Friday to get us started and excited about our projects. The Science Fair will be held on Friday, May 1.  As in previous years, doing a science project is required by all third through eighth grade students. For my Science students, I count the project as a “test” grade.

Third Quarter Mission Project
Our third quarter mission project is over.  We earned a GRAND TOTAL of $1,991.37 for the Pennies for Patients Program.  Mrs. Otte and Mrs. Brunkhorst’s classes were the top earners, so they will enjoy a lunch from the Olive Garden!  Thanks to all of you who donated.
